WELLBEING AND
INCLUSION

At our school, every child is valued, supported, and celebrated for who they are.

We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where students feel safe, respected, and connected. Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do - from our daily check-ins to structured wellbeing lessons that help students build resilience, empathy, and strong social skills.

We embrace diversity and ensure that all students, regardless of their background or learning needs, have the support and opportunities they need to thrive. Our small, close-knit community means every student is known by name and supported to achieve their personal best, both academically and socially.

Through strong relationships, open communication, and a focus on kindness, we build a school culture where everyone belongs.

The Resilience Project

Tanjil South Primary School began its journey with The Resilience Project (TRP) in 2024. We have committed to a three-year partnership, and even in the early stages, we have seen the positive impact across our school community. With just a few new practices introduced, it is clear that our students and staff already demonstrate and live by the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness. Inspired daily by Hugh, Martin, and the team at TRP, we are excited to continue growing, learning, and becoming the best humans we can be. It’s a journey we are proud to take together.

Winnie

As our Wellbeing Dog, Winnie joins us during selected times to provide comfort, connection, and joy. Research shows that wellbeing dogs can help reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and encourage positive social interactions, and we see these benefits in our students every day.

Whether she’s greeting students in the morning, sitting quietly beside someone who needs a moment of calm, or simply bringing a smile to the playground, Winnie helps make our school a place where everyone feels safe, supported, and included.

Access to support services

Our knowledgeable and compassionate staff are committed to understanding each student's individual needs and connecting families with the services that can help them the most.

We work closely with a range of trusted external professionals and community organisations, ensuring students have access to specialised support when needed. Whether it's wellbeing guidance, learning support, behavioural assistance, or family services, we are here to help navigate the options and make the process as smooth as possible.

Berry Street Model

Our school proudly follows the Berry Street Model, a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach that supports the wellbeing and engagement of every student. This model equips our staff with the tools to create safe, predictable, and supportive learning environments where students can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

To ensure our practices are current and consistent, all of our staff participate in annual Berry Street training, as well as refresher sessions throughout the school year.
