LEARNING THROUGH NATURE

At Tanjil South Primary School, we make the most of our beautiful surroundings by weaving nature into our everyday learning. We believe that the natural world is a powerful classroom - one that inspires curiosity, creativity, and hands-on exploration.

Whenever possible, we take our learning outdoors. Whether it’s using leaves, soil, and water in a science experiment, observing weather patterns firsthand, or writing descriptive pieces inspired by our environment, our students engage deeply with the world around them.

Nature supports all areas of the curriculum and enhances student wellbeing. It encourages inquiry, builds responsibility, and fosters a genuine appreciation for the environment. By learning through nature, our students don’t just study the world - they connect with it.

VEGETABLE GARDEN

A fan favourite among students, our self-led vegetable gardens provide a unique and engaging way for children to connect with nature and develop a sense of responsibility. These gardens are more than just a space for growing vegetables - they are living classrooms where students explore the full life cycle of plants, from seed to harvest.

Each student is given the opportunity to manage their own garden bed, planting seedlings, nurturing their growth, and observing how their plants respond to different conditions. Through this hands-on experience, students gain valuable lessons in patience, care, and commitment. They also learn about the changing seasons and how these shifts in weather and temperature affect plant growth, harvest times, and even the types of vegetables that can thrive.
